Today is Thanksgiving. As a born and raised American, I’ve always celebrated Thanksgiving with big meals and family.
Now that I’m older and I’ve learned the truth about the world, I find it challenging to accept and “celebrate” a holiday built upon a genocide—the slaughtering of this land’s indigenous people. I urge you not to forget the horrors of this country’s past and the struggles of its present as you celebrate this holiday.
Being grateful is an amazing thing!
Being merry is wonderful!
We should celebrate as much as possible!
But we can do so while loving EVERYONE, remembering those who suffered, and making efforts toward building a better world for ALL people.
I practice daily gratitude through meditation, verbal acknowledgement, and journaling. 🤍
I’m grateful for many things (my family, my dogs, bookstagram, you, duh! 😜). But today I’m extra grateful for all the people in this world who strive to make each day better than the last for others around them.
Joyous reading! 📖
