Do extremely popular books EVER live up to the hype?
Well, yes. Sometimes they actually do.
In this case, The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood surpasses the hype.
Let’s start by looking at Olive, our endearing main character. She’s incredibly book smart (obviously, since she’s pursuing a Ph.D.) but a little slow with the men. It’s adorably naïve, and I’m here for it.
*Adam looks away while Olive licks the whipped cream off her straw*
*Olive is confused*
*Adam squirms and his voice is strained when Olive sits on his lap*
*Olive is confused*
Oh, sweet dear Olive, clearly you affect the man—he has a thing for you!
Anyway, women in STEM?
Yessssss please!
Olive mentioning she’s rarely into people and needs to form a trusting connection before being attracted to them?
Double YES please!
There’s no insta-love here. This is a deeper connection than just your basic falling-in-love-just-because-the-hero-is-smexy (or smart or rich or whatever the trope is these days).
Speaking of our lovable hero…. hi, Adam! *smirk*
Adam is a grumpy asshole (but not really) who is a literal genius AND can please a lady.
(I’m looking at YOU, hotel scene—you live rent free in my head) Adam’s *dirty talk* is so sickeningly sweet and hot at the same time. I’m a fan.
“You can take it all.”
^That is all I will say on the topic.
Please, do yourself a favor and read this one.
Maybe it’s my new favorite rom-com of all time. Maybe one of my favorite reads of the year… yes, yes, it is.
